Getting Mosquitoes to Kick the Bucket

Mosquitoes’ favorite place to lay eggs is in manmade containers with a little standing water. These eggs attach to the sides of the container, and can survive there for up to 8 months, even if they dry out. When a little rain gets them wet again they can hatch. Even if the water freezes, the eggs survive and can hatch when the temperatures rise.
This is bad news for you. Mosquitoes aren’t big travelers, they can only fly about one to three miles, but are more likely to stay within several hundred feet of where they hatched. So most likely they will remain in your yard and you will become their lunch. They are drawn to human breath, so if you happen to breathe while you’re out in your yard . . . you are likely to get bit. Especially if they like your smell!
